So you have successfully launched your website and have tons of high-quality content already published. You would expect that things would get pretty easy and quick in terms of your website growth, right? But then you will notice that on a good day, you will only get 10-15 pageviews which are obviously not enough if you want to make a living off of your website.
What you need is website traffic—lots of it! Because if you don’t have people visiting your website, then your hard work will all just go to waste.
Now, you have two choices here: you can either just sit back and wait for the day when people will just magically find your website, or you can follow these easy strategies that I will give you to get traffic to your website fast.
WHY TRAFFIC IS IMPORTANT TO YOUR WEBSITE
But really, what does traffic do to your website? Before we move forward to the strategies, I just want to show you the importance of building traffic to your website and what it can do to your brand or business.
More traffic = more revenue
Having a steady, passive income while working on your own time is probably one of the top reasons why you started blogging or building a website, right? Well, you can achieve that once you have a high volume of traffic coming into your site. This works well especially if you rely on ads to bring you income. There are high-paying display ad companies like Mediavine and AdThrive but you will only be accepted in their program once you reach a certain amount of pageviews or sessions on your website. For Mediavine, you need to reach 25,000/mo sessions based on the data in your Google Analytics for the last 30 days.
.More traffic = more brand awareness
Of course, if you have more traffic, this means that more people are visiting your website and that more people are getting to know your brand. And it can only go up from there because these people can recommend your site through word-of-mouth or sharing on their social media accounts. Having brand awareness also means more business collaborations and sponsorship offers!
More traffic = more conversions, sales, and leads
If you have an eCommerce website or you sell your own products or even affiliate products, then you will really need to have a high volume of traffic to see an increase in sales and leads. You will get more customers and a more targeted audience interested in your products when you have high level of traffic — as simple as that.
HOW TO GET AND INCREASE TRAFFIC TO YOUR BLOG OR WEBSITE
Now that you know why it is important to build traffic to your website, I will give you easy free strategies that will help you get more organic and FAST!
1. Pinterest Marketing
I know this won’t come as a surprise that Pinterest Marketing is my first suggestion, but hear me out. Pinterest is every blogger’s holy grail and it is no wonder why. You can get website link clicks and traffic to your site in just a short period of time! If done right, of course. I would know this because about 85% of my traffic comes from Pinterest.
Some people have this notion that Pinterest is just another social media platform but they are wrong. Pinterest is actually a search engine just like Google and there are already tons of bloggers and business owners who are using the platform to promote their businesses and websites!
To effectively promote your blog and posts on Pinterest, you would have to sign up or convert to a business account (which is free) and then claim your website, and start pinning! I have tons of Pinterest Marketing tips and strategies on my channel that I am sure will give you valuable information on some of the best practices on Pinterest.
But to give you a quick tip, you need to create pins that are vertical (at least 2:3 image ratio) and have bright, pleasing images as Pinterest is a visual search engine after all. Of course, don’t forget to have your website or article page linked to your pin. And the most important part is that you need to use the focus keyword in your pin title and description. Using keywords is really important because that’s how users will find your pin if they search for something on Pinterest.
2. Write Click-worthy Titles and Headlines
People usually search on Google (or any search engine and social media) because they have a question and they want to find the answer. But I want you to keep in mind that in most cases, you have just about 3 seconds to grab someone’s attention, and this includes getting someone to click on your link or page.
This is why you should create headlines that are click-worthy and attention-grabbing. It also helps to write a headline that already answers what the users are searching for.
Some recommendations are topics or titles that start with “How To,” “Why It Is”, “Where To”, a guide list, product reviews and recommendations, and DIY instructions.
3. Creating YouTube Videos
It’s another great strategy of driving traffic to your website by making informative Youtube videos. Did you know that Youtube is the second largest search engine in the world? So, take advantage of the platform!
Create tutorials or informative videos that are within your expertise. For example, like I do on this channel! I post Youtube videos about Pinterest strategies and I mention my site in my videos, and I link my relevant page URLs in the description text under the videos.
Funny enough, my videos often outrank in Google search results my own website and many of my competitors with high domain authority, for the focus keywords which I tried to target in my long-format detailed articles on the site.
You know how it happens… you follow all the best recommendations for Google search engine optimization, you write a text over 4000 words long, you do internal linking to help this page rank. In this particular case, for the keyword “Pinterest SEO”, I even have a paid course focused on this exact topic. But whatever I tried, I wasn’t able to rank for Pinterest SEO keyword on Google.
You can wait 3 months, 6 months, a year… and nothing happens. Your webpage is hanging somewhere between top-15 and top-30 in Google search results and that means you are getting almost no traffic at all.
And then I get really frustrated with Google and recreate my best Pinterest SEO tips in the video format and within a month or so it takes some VIP spots on the first page of Google search results… just because it’s a Youtube video, and Google gives priority to videos on its own platform.
4. Join Blogging Facebook groups
There are tons of benefits you can get by joining groups that are made for bloggers and engagement. First, you are meeting fellow bloggers and have a chance to learn from them if they are a few steps ahead of you on this journey, you will receive tons of advice about blogging, managing your website, tips about getting traffic, and a lot more!
Some blogging Facebook groups also have daily or weekly threads where you can post your blog link for engagements such as views, feedback, and comments. If you are interested, I actually have my own Facebook group called “Grow your Blog / Website Traffic & Make Money Online!” that you can easily join and I frequently answer your questions about online business in general and about Pinterest marketing there.
5. Email Marketing
Starting an email list is definitely something you should do the moment you create your website. It doesn’t matter if you don’t send out emails right away. Start as early as you can because you wouldn’t want to miss any user who first visited your website and was interested in what you are offering.
By sending emails, you remind your readers and subscribers that you have a new post, a new offer or service. And that itself will urge them to go visit your website to look at your product or read your new blog post.
An effective strategy to have people sign up for your mailing list is by giving them something from the start. It can be a free printable, a free short course, or anything that you believe will be a valuable piece of information for them.
6. Writing guest posts
s another great way to attract traffic to your blog and achieve faster rankings. Guest posting basically means contributing an article to another website or blog. In exchange for your article, the owner of the blog or website will credit you by adding your short author bio along with your social media channels and a link back to your blog.
If you are lucky to get a guest post on a popular site, you will be able to reach a wider audience! Just make sure that you guest post on websites that are related to your niche so that you can actually get an audience that is already interested in what you have to offer.
Bloggers usually have a page on their site called something like “Contribute” or “Write for us” or even simply Guest Posts – this is where you can learn the requirements they have for the guest posts, and how to submit your articles. Or you can always find an email address of the website owner in the Contact section and ask them if they accept guest posts at all.
7. Linking Internally
When you are making a post, don’t forget to link back to your other related articles.
This not only helps with Google SEO, but it also helps the users see your other content and urges them to visit more of your pages and explore your website. This will prevent them from leaving your site after checking one page, which will improve your bounce rate metric in Google Analytics.
Another method can be placing a section, usually it’s at the end of each page, where you can put Related Articles. This keep your audience on your site longer, and this will also help with your Google rankings as it indicates the quality of your content. Usually if your site is built on WordPress platform, you can easily find free plugins to add related posts section to your blog pages.
Now moving to the next method, I want to say it’s something most of us don’t even think about!
8. Updating your old content!
So don’t forget about your old pages! Actually, your old page are most likely to be the first ones to rank well on Google and you have to keep them up-to-date.
When users find your content, it shouldn’t look like it’s 2-3 years old, keep the information on your site updated.
You can add new ideas, new paragraphs, or headings to your articles. Change the title if you have a year written on it. For example, “How To Boost Traffic To Your Website Fast in 2020”, and then the next year, you change the title to 2021. It is also a good idea to look over your old post and see if you can link back to your more recent posts!
When users see in the Google search results an article that has a current year in the title, they will more likely click on your page than on another page that has the previous year in the title.
9. Answering Questions on Quora
Quora is a great platform where you can promote your website. When you type in a question on Google, there is almost always Quora on the top page, right?
And you will notice that the answers on Quora are from business owners, bloggers, and various professionals. So yes, even can also answer questions there as long as it is your area of expertise or if you know what you are talking about. When you do this on Quora, you can link back to some related articles or posts on your site to help users get more in-depth information that helps them with their question.
10. Use keywords
If you have been watching most of my Pinterest videos or have been reading my posts about Pinterest marketing, you would know that I always emphasize how important it is to add keywords to your pin descriptions and titles so you can rank faster on Pinterest and so that users can find your pins higher is search results. The same goes for your website and blog posts, but this time, you are targeting the rankings in Google search.
Use keywords in your post titles, post descriptions, post sub-headings, the body of the post itself, as well as the images you use. There are a lot of free SEO resources and tools out there like Keyword Surf browser extension and Neil Patel’s UberSuggest.
